Prototype for Net Zero Office Building

Farr Associates designed this small combination office and maintenance building to be Net Zero Energy with a low embodied carbon footprint.

We established an energy budget based on the amount of power that can be generated by the roof area of the building and then ran multiple simulations to develop two Net Zero sets of requirements: one using off-the-shelf technology and one using the best-in-class equipment.

We then evaluated the three options for initial embodied carbon and life cycle to determine the optimum balance between insulation, energy use, and emissions.
