Wasatch Front TOD Form-Based Model Code

Date: 2012

Client: Salt Lake County

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah

Funding: HUD Sustainable Communities Grant Awardee

Salt Lake County hired Farr Associates to write a model form-based code for complete transit centers and corridors in the Wasatch Front. Funded by a HUD Sustainable Communities Grant, the Model Code is a direct result of the Wasatch Choice for 2040 planning initiative. This comprehensive land use and transportation vision for Weber, Davis, Salt Lake, and Utah Counties, was developed by elected officials and the public to improve the quality of life as the region experiences dramatic growth.

The model form-based code is written to be calibrated by individual communities based on their transit “place type,” as transit stations have different intensities and land use contexts. These place types were developed to be useful for both existing and planned transit stations. Building types, street types, civic space types, landscape, parking, and signage were included within the Model Code chapters.
