Doug Farr, FAIA, LEED AP
President & Founding Principal
Doug Farr is Founding Principal and President of Farr Associates, the 2012 AIA Chicago Firm of the Year. He is a national leader in designing sustainable neighborhoods and buildings, being elevated to the AIA College of Fellows in 2014. Under his leadership, Farr Associates has designed and certified a total of seven LEED Platinum buildings, two of which also achieve net-zero energy, and four LEED-ND Developments. Doug was the founding chair of the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED-ND Core Committee and is currently serving as the Chair of the Congress for the New Urbanism Executive Board.

Jonathan Boyer, FAIA
Principal
Jonathan Boyer has been practicing architecture in Chicago since 1974 and joined Farr Associates in 2004 as the Director of Architecture. Mr. Boyer’s practice has focused on integrating environmentally sustainable elements into healthy and aesthetically compelling living spaces.

 

 

Aly Andrews, AICP
Associate
With a background in architecture, urban planning & design, Aly has mastered the ability to work at multiple scales. Her experience includes working for state and local governments, as well as the private sector. Her project work includes developing community engagement tools, affordable housing, workforce development, pedestrian and bike mobility, resilient neighborhoods, urban agriculture, and vertical cities.

Christina Bader, AICP
Associate
Christina Bader is currently the Director of Marketing & Special Projects and is an AICP certified urban planner. She has pursued zoning and form-based code development with the firm over the past seven years, working in communities on a range of projects including full-city, downtown, TOD, and template codes. She is a contributor to APA Zoning Practice and is a LEED Accredited Professional in Neighborhood Development.

Tony Holub, AIA, LEED AP
Senior Associate
Tony joined Farr Associates as a Senior Associate in 2014. He is an experienced project manager, coordinating all phases of projects from design, construction documentation, bidding, permitting and construction. His work has also focused extensively on sustainable design and LEED certification initiatives. He is formerly the chair of the AIA Iowa Committee on the Environment (COTE) and is an involved member of the U.S. Green Building Council.

Grant Hromas, LEED AP
Associate
Grant joined Farr Associates in 2016 as an urban designer and planner. His priorities include designing more attractive, economically and environmentally sustainable communities that create lasting connections between place and people. A background in architecture, as well as streetscape and corridor design, program development, town planning, and zoning and feasibility analysis, round out his diverse experience.

Joseph Juhl
Associate
Throughout his career, Joseph has developed sensitivity to client needs, awareness of current issues affecting planning, design, and construction, and a well-rounded set of skills in architectural methods and technologies. With his M.Arch concentration in Sustainable Design and through serving as a Kern Research Fellow at Judson University, Joseph feels his responsibility as an architect to meet the needs of people in the present and in the long-term through sustainable means. With an undergraduate background in biblical studies, Joseph brings a deeply-held regard for history, cultural values, and social needs to his practice.

Tim Kirkby, AIA, AICP, LEED AP
Senior Associate
Tim joined Farr Associates in 2009 as a member of the architecture studio. A registered architect of Illinois and New York, Tim has used his sustainable expertise in the areas of architecture, urban design and historic preservation. He holds LEED accreditation in two areas, including LEED for Neighborhood Development.

Matt McGrane, AIA, LEED AP
Senior Associate
Matt McGrane is a Senior Associate with Farr Associates. As an architect, he has designed and successfully implemented highly-sustainable projects at multiple scales including master planning, build-to-suit architecture, and interiors. As a sustainability consultant, he has worked as a certified reviewer for the USGBC and Chicago Green Homes Programs and has coordinated numerous LEED project certification pursuits. Passionate about socially-equitable design, Matt is interested in the confluence of performance and affordability.

Kelly Moynihan, AIA
Associate
Kelly joined the Farr Associates Architecture Studio in 2012. Her work focuses on large-scale sustainable master planning. Beyond urban design, Kelly’s experience includes residential and hospitality architecture, interiors, lighting design. She also excels at graphic design. Kelly holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture.

Alina Tompert
Associate
Alina joined the Farr Associates Architecture Studio in 2016. Her work focuses on the human experience and sustainable communities, always questioning the status quo and working to push the boundaries of what design can achieve and provide its users. Alina has experience in design build, residential and commercial architecture, as well as graphic design and fine arts. She holds a B.Arch from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Gabe Wilcox, AIA, LEED AP
Senior Associate
Gabe joined the Farr Associates Architecture Studio in 2015. Gabe brings experience in design leadership roles as well as a hands on design approach to project delivery. Gabe’s employment background is diverse with experience in construction, civil engineering, and architecture. With over ten years of experience in sustainable design, he finds the integrated design process at the core of high performance buildings.

Sydney VanKuren
Sustainable Urbanism Program Coordinator
Sydney VanKuren joined Farr Associates in 2015. She focuses on sustainable urbanism projects including managing the production of the second edition of Sustainable Urbanism: Urban Design with Nature. Sydney has professional experience in biology, research analysis, science communication, and environmental planning and policy. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources as well as a master’s degree in Urban Planning and Policy.
